Anne of Green Gables is an inspired tale of a man in need of aid, a woman determined to get him some, an outspoken neighbor, and an unwanted orphan girl. Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert are two older people. Brother and sister, they live together, and they have a nosy and outspoken neighbor known as Miss Rachel Lynde. One day, she notices Matthew going away all dressed up in the horse and buggy. She just has to know what's going on, so she comes to see Marilla, who informs her that he is on his way to pick up an orphan boy to work alongside him at the farm. However, the orphan he returns with is a girl, a mischievous, talkative redhead who'd be no use at all. Matthew seemed to like her though, and she introduces herself as Anne ("spelled with an 'e'") Shirley. She's tolerated at first, (Though Matthew takes an instant liking to her), but then they try to take her back and get the boy. When they decide to keep her for a little longer, just to see if they'll like her, they find that they do and decide to keep her. The book covers Anne's life from when she's adopted to when she gets into college. As she meets new friends, and even a few enemies, she has a good time traveling the road of life, and especially enjoys it when there is a bend in it. It's a wonderful book of friends, enemies, love, and life.
